McIlroy, 20 years old, comes from Northern Ireland who have already reached No. 9 in the world met with Nicklaus in the Bear's Club on the eve of the Honda Classic, having lunch with a network of friends.
He wanted as much information as possible about Nicklaus's victory because Nicklaus's 18 professional majors that have been the standard course and the golf clubs he used were the first choice for many golfers. It's more than one might imagine.
It was wonderful to sit and talk to him and see his approach to winning, and what came to his mind when he was in contention, and what he have done differently to other people. It was probably the best 90 minutes I have spent in a long time.

McIlroy won the Dubai Desert Classic last year which was the only victory on the European Tour, although enough time had spent on claiming to get into the top 10 in the world and he had been considered as a rising star in the golf. He works with sports psychologist Bob Rotella for assistance after the final tournament over.
It did not hurt meetings with Nicklaus.
A story that stayed with him was that Nicklaus hadn't won the best tournament he had ever played. This was the 1977 British Open hold in Turnberry which was the famous "Duel in the Sun".On this game, Nicklaus and Tom Watson got the same score every day, Watson ended with 65 - a birdie at the last hole--won by it a shot.
